This past weekend I attended the Washington Metroploitan Cooking & Entertaining Show in Washington, DC at the Convention Center.  It was a great show, I got to meet Paula Dean and Bobby Flay! Now, the highlight of my day was going around to all the exhibitors who had endless amounts of food samples.  Little did I know, as I was leaving the convention center, a cookie that was handed to me would be my favorite sample of them all!      The show was sunday, and now Thursday, I went into my C

Cakes of a higher standard

At Bijoux Doux in Brooklyn, New York, cakes have reached a whole new level. The owner, Ellen Baumwoll, has perfected a new design style where she uses special printing techniques (edible, of course) to print intricate designs on an edible paper that adheres to the fondant icing. So your cake can have very small details and look amazing and clear. To see a picture of the cake I’m referring to, take a look at In Style Weddings this season. 97-year old wedding cake!

And by far, it’s the oldest wedding cake ever found that still looks good! I don’t know if it’s still edible though. According to reports, while cataloguing the Ararat’s Langi Morgala Museum’s thousands of historical items, volunteers uncovered a piece of wedding cake posted to the region in 1911. The cake, still wrapped in wax paper and housed in a metal tin, was posted in a cupid wedding cake box to a J Hamilton at Tatyoon via Ararat in 1911. Inside the tin, a card announced the marriage o

French Elegance and Cirque du Soleil Inspired

Saturday night was a bit of a circus — literally. Our client Candes celebrated her engagement to fiance Milan in a beautiful, Cirque du Soleil inspired party in Diamond Head. She gave Rick carte blanche to design her a spectacular showpiece, using her wedding colors of soft pinks, lavenders, greens, and golds and incorporating an elegant Cirque du Soleil inspired whimsy. She was very open to design and wanted something her guests would be talking about long after the party — mission accomplis

Student Cake Designs

So as some of you might remember a while back I told you about the classes that I was going to teach at MiraCosta Community College in Oceanside.  Well, we are done with two out of the three modules and I thought that I would share some of my student’s work with you. Most of these them came with little to no knowledge of fondant, gumpaste, royal icings, etc and just six classes later turned out stunning three tiered cakes.  Our first module was about the basics…filling, frosting, smoothing, and

• A GOLDEN TOWER AND A CHOCOLATE DELIGHT…

Posted in Wedding Cakes by admin ~ Leave a Comment

Cake  - 11.08.08 I met with a couple earlier in the Spring about a November wedding. She had many ideas for the cake so we sat and went through designs and photos until she came up with the perfect cake. We met one more time to decide on sizes and grooms cake design and finally we were all set. Since her wedding colors are red, gold & ivory, she went for an ivory four tier wedding cake with roses between each tier and gold detailing. The grooms cake was to be a Chocolate lovers dream, two tiers

Dephine and Ray: Fall-ing in Love in Waikiki

Posted in Wedding Cakes by admin ~ Leave a Comment

All images courtesy of Bianca Photography One thing I love about Fall weddings are the colors and the textures. We start to see more of the jewel tones and metallics, sumptous silk linens, and fall-inspired cakes — I just love it! On November 1st, Delphine and Ray were married at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. Their colors were primarily ivory, olive green, golds and other warm tones. Their photographer Bianca Photography sent us these beautiful images of their wedding to share with our readers.
