I would say it depends on the person.  The main thing you should consider when you are asked to be a Wedding Emcee is what the bride and groom seem to expect of you when they ask you. If they say things like “we know you will keep the reception program running efficiently” and “we know how organized you are” then there isn’t any pressure to be humorous - unless you want to be.
